Smitty had recited a poem to her while they were in Chamonix, France, and J.C. later remembers it:
All birds are heralds from above Each robin, blue jay, every dove; But when you see a red bird fly, You've sen an angel in the sky. Only at the conclusion of the novel, will you completely understand the meaning of this poem and the reason behind Smitty's telling it to J.C. |
